Authentic Kerala Ayurvedic Treatments for Natural Healing
Rebalance your body, mind, and spirit through time-tested therapies.
Ayurveda in Kerala

You can’t really talk about Ayurveda without eventually arriving at Kerala. Kerala Ayurveda are entangled like the roots of a very old tree. Ayurveda history in Kerala, with its origins tracing back over 3,000 years, found a nurturing home in Kerala’s warm, fertile lands. And not just because the climate helped the herbs grow (though it certainly did). There’s something deeper. A quiet dedication, passed down from teacher to student, family to family. You still find that today, in the way an old Vaidya might explain a herb’s temperament, or how carefully a practitioner chooses an oil for your Dosha.
Perhaps it’s the blend of things, the humid air during monsoon, which makes your skin feel more open to healing; the Kashayams brewed exactly how their ancestors did it; or the stories from families who’ve practiced for centuries, like the Ashtavaidyas, each carrying their own interpretations of ancient texts.
Even now, in a world leaning hard into science and speed, Kerala holds its ground as a trusted name for authentic Ayurvedic treatments. There’s structure, yes, but also soul. And sometimes, that’s what makes the difference. Traditional Ayurveda in Kerala isn’t stagnant. It is alive, adapting, and still a remedy for various medical conditions. It is not limited to treating something, but to feeling whole again.

Our Signature Ayurvedic Treatments in Kerala
Here’s a closer look at some of the treatments we offer. These treatments aren’t some therapies. They’re centuries-old practices, deeply entrenched in the Ayurveda history in Kerala.

Abhyanga
Abhyanga is a full-body oil massage that’s both soothing at the same time therapeutic. It is known as the foundational Ayurvedic treatment. This synchronized massage uses warm herbal oils to balance doshas (body energies).
In Kerala, Abhyanga is often performed by two therapists working in harmony. It is a rare thing to experience unless you’ve been here. They use long, rhythmic strokes and warm medicated oils prepared with regional herbs. It is part of your daily rejuvenation and detox in Ayurveda.
Key Benefits of Abhyanga is it reduces stress, improves circulation, nourishes skin, improves sleep, and supports overall immunity. We use cold-pressed coconut oil soaked with herbs like bala, ashwagandha, and triphala. It can be sourced from local farms in Kerala.
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is an ancient therapy where warm, medicated oil is poured in a gentle, steady stream onto the forehead, particularly the ‘third eye’ region. It starts with a short head massage, followed by the oil stream. This process can last 30 to 45 minutes, during which the mind enters a near-meditative state.
It is best done after a light Abhyanga. Not suitable on a full stomach or during certain conditions. The major benefits include deep mental relaxation, relaxation from insomnia and anxiety, supports neurological balance, and improves scalp health. The herbal oil (often ‘Ksheerabala’ or ‘Brahmi tailam’) is prepared daily. It depends on your dosha constitution.

Panchakarma
Panchakarma means “five actions”, like a complete detox. It is a set of Ayurvedic detox procedures to remove toxins from the body.
The process spans several days or weeks and involves preparatory therapies (like oil massage and steam). It is followed by main procedures like Vamana (therapeutic vomiting), Virechana (purgation), and more, all under supervision. It’s designed individually based on your health status and seasonal considerations.
It offers deep detoxification, improved metabolism, better energy levels, hormonal regulation, and mental clarity. At kerala panchakarma approach uses time-tested herbal formulations and food protocols.
Nasya
Nasya involves regulating medicated oils or powders through the nasal passages. It opens up the head region. It’s often paired with facial massage and steam to ensure better absorption. It works best in early mornings or just after sunrise. Not recommended for children or during menstruation.
It provides clear sinuses, relieves headaches, sharpens senses, and improves voice clarity. Local herbs like Brahmi, Vacha, and Eucalyptus are used in oil preparations.

Basti
It is a colon therapy in an Ayurvedic style. Basti using herbal decoctions or oils. It is administered under strict guidance, it balances the Vata dosha and eliminates toxins from the lower abdomen. It’s one of the five main Panchakarma therapies and requires pre- and post-care.
It reduces constipation, joint pain, neurological issues, and reproductive imbalances. It uses locally-prepared decoctions like Dashamoola and Sahacharadi in Kerala Ayurvedic therapy protocol.
Udvartana
A powder massage that wakes up your lymphatic system.
Udvartana is a dry or semi-dry massage using herbal powders, traditionally used for weight balance and skin care. The powders are massaged upward against hair growth, stimulating lymph flow and exfoliating the skin.
It is not suitable for dry or extremely sensitive skin types. It tones the body, reduces fat accumulation, improves complexion, and removes toxins. Udvartana powders are ground fresh, including ingredients like Kolakulathadi, turmeric, and horse gram.

Netra Tarpana
Netra Tarpana is an eye rejuvenation therapy using medicated ghee. The term “Tarpana” means nourishment. It nourishes and protects the eyes. This is how it works: a well-made ball of black gram dough is formed around the eyes. Into this, warm ghee infused with herbs is gently poured. The eyes are bathed for about 15–30 minutes while you remain still. It may feel strange at first, but deeply calming soon after.
It is perfect for people who spend long hours on screens or those experiencing eye strain, dryness, or dullness. Its key benefits include relieving dryness and strain, sharpening vision, strengthening eye muscles, and helping manage early-stage degenerative conditions. The ghee is prepared using classical texts with herbs like Triphala and Yashtimadhu under a low flame for hours.
Shiroabhyanga
It is the Ayurvedic head massage that works beyond the scalp. It targets the marma (vital) points on the head and neck, balancing the nervous system and mental energy. Medicated oil is gently massaged into the scalp, temples, neck, and shoulders in slow, circular motions. It’s both grounding and refreshing, especially when done before or after a main therapy session.
It can be done as a standalone therapy or paired with treatments like Shirodhara or Nasya for a more holistic result. It reduces hair fall, improves sleep, boosts memory and focus, calms anxiety, and helps with migraines. Herbal oils like Neelibhringadi or Kayyanyadi are freshly warmed and used generously.

Swedana
Swedana is an herbal steam therapy used to detoxify the body and open the channels (srotas). It is therapeutic, targeted, and done after specific treatments. After an oil massage, you sit or lie inside a wooden steam chamber. Steam, generated from boiling herbal decoctions, rises and envelops the body.
It is often used before Panchakarma procedures. Not suitable for people with very high Pitta or excessive weakness. It loosens toxins, improves flexibility, relieves stiffness, enhances skin glow, and promotes circulation. Decoctions with Vata-hara herbs like Nirgundi, Dashamoola, and Eranda are commonly used.
Njavarakizhi
Njavarakizhi is a specialized Kerala therapy where preparation of njavara rice is cooked in herbal decoction and milk, then gently pounded over the body. After an oil massage, the warm medication is used to rhythmically press and massage the body. It’s deeply nourishing and often used to strengthen muscles and restore tissues.
It is recommended for people recovering from chronic illness, weakness, or nervous conditions. It’s not a quick-fix therapy; instead, it’s nourishing in the long term. It improves muscle tone, relieves joint pain, rejuvenates skin, boosts immunity, and supports neuromuscular health. The rice itself is the important factor. Njavara is grown in limited regions and known for its nourishing, anti-inflammatory properties. Combined with cow’s milk and herbal decoctions, it’s a Kerala-exclusive ritual.
