Dalai Lama’s Holiness’s Message for Buddha Purnima is now getting attention from all the people who follow Buddhism. Originating 2500 years ago the essence of teachings is still relevant. As per Dalai Lamas’s observation, Modern science has contributed hugely prior to understanding the physical world. However, Buddhist science, on the other hand committed to developing a detailed, first-person understanding of many aspects of the mind and emotions, areas still comparatively new to modern science. Dalai Lama believes that the union of both these approaches has great prospective to lead to discoveries that can enhance our physical, emotional and social well-being.
As a Tibetan Buddhist monk, Dalai Lama considers himself an heir to the Nalanda Tradition. Nalanda University represents the top of its development in India in regard to the way Buddhism was taught and studied. According to the Dalai Lama, as we are in the 21st century, we must give importance to being engaged in the study and analysis of the Buddha’s teachings instead of mindlessly following the faith.
Buddha Purnima, or Vesak, is considered the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar. Buddha Purnima celebrates the Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and passing away. On this auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, he offers fellow Buddhists all over the world good wishes for having meaningful lives filled with kindheartedness and compassion.
