This realization led to the creation of the website Hidden Mantra.
Where It All Began
The idea of building a website that offers accurate and detailed information encompassing India’s entire cultural spectrum came to life two years ago. However, deciding where to begin within this diverse culture was a significant challenge. That’s when I recalled reading William Dalrymple’s Nine Lives: In Search of the Sacred in Modern India, which delved into nine diverse Indian cultures, including Kannur’s vibrant Theyyam art form. It was a fascinating insight into my homeland.
As a child, I often saw foreigners attending Theyyam performances at various Theyyam venues, and their fascination with this art form was striking. This inspired me to decide that Theyyam would be the first topic to write about on this website when I started Hidden mantra.
India is widely recognized as a spiritual center, drawing numerous global travelers in search of meaning and purpose. Hidden Mantra aims to be a comprehensive source of accurate information on India’s diverse cultures and traditions, enhancing visitors’ experiences nationwide.

Moving forward, our mission is to write about India’s prominent destinations and the unique cultures associated with each location.
The number of global travelers visiting India to study and experience Theyyam, a traditional art form, has been steadily increasing. This rush in interest was further fueled by the Oscar nomination of the Kannada film Kantara, which showcased the art form to a wider audience. To provide these tourists with a complete Theyyam experience, we have launched a specialized Theyyam Tour Program.
